One sentence \u2014 and ten parental reflexes. Some immediately offer solutions: a toy, a cartoon, an app. Others try with a question: \u201cHow can you be bored, you have all that around you?\u201d And some, a bit worried, wonder: Am I doing something wrong if my child is bored?<\/p>\n

But maybe we should stop. And ask ourselves: is boredom really something bad \u2014 or have we just forgotten how to understand it?<\/p>\n
Once, boredom was inevitable. Summer breaks lasted forever, rainy days dragged on without screens, and kids invented games, made \u201csecret clubs,\u201d and turned chairs into ships. Today, the landscape of children\u2019s everyday life is completely different.<\/p>\n
In most families, children\u2019s days are pre-planned: kindergarten, sports, languages, birthdays. Free time is quickly filled with content \u2014 often digital. Instead of wandering through boredom and finding their own way out, children increasingly receive \u201cready-made\u201d solutions to fill their time: YouTube, games, tablets.<\/p>\n
The result? Children less and less develop the internal capacity to come up with something on their own. And that is exactly what is most important for creativity.<\/p>\n
Boredom is an uncomfortable state. Not because it\u2019s dangerous \u2014 but because it\u2019s quiet. And in that quiet, the child is forced to listen to themselves.<\/p>\n
At first, they might be restless, seeking attention or solutions. But if we give them space, something important will happen: the brain starts to create. A cardboard box becomes a house. Cushions are a river. Stories write themselves in the mind.<\/p>\n
Creativity does not come from overload of content, but from empty space. And boredom is precisely that \u2014 space.<\/p>\n
The modern pace often leaves no room for wandering. Parents want their children to \u201cnot miss opportunities,\u201d so they fill their days with activities. We teach them languages, sign them up for sports, take them to workshops. All of that can be wonderful \u2014 but not if it becomes a substitute for spontaneity.<\/p>\n
When a child lacks time to simply figure out what to do, they lose touch with their own interests. They become dependent on external impulses. And creativity doesn\u2019t come from outside \u2014 it comes from within.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t fix boredom immediately \u2013 It\u2019s perfectly okay for a child not to know what to do for a while. That is the start of the process, not the end.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Don\u2019t offer screens right away \u2013 Digital content is quick entertainment, but often stifles spontaneous creation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Create conditions for free play \u2013 Cardboard boxes, ordinary objects, art supplies without instructions \u2014 these are the best allies of creativity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Be present, but not the director \u2013 It\u2019s enough to be nearby and available. You don\u2019t have to design the whole scenario.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Give boredom \u201cpermission\u201d \u2013 A sentence like: \u201cBoredom is okay, I\u2019m curious what you will come up with\u201d has more power than it seems.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The parental impulse to give children as much as possible \u2014 is deeply caring. But sometimes what they need most is actually \u2014 less. Less instruction. Less content. More time without a plan.<\/p>\n
