In today’s world, we\u2019re seeing a shift toward equalizing the roles<\/strong> of men and women. Moms are increasingly taking on tasks that were once considered “dad\u2019s work” \u2014 and vice versa.<\/p>\n

In the past, the messages parents sent to their children were often based on gender<\/strong>. Boys were expected to be strong, persistent, and focused on intellectual development \u2014 in short, to “be a man.” Girls, on the other hand, were allowed to be emotional, gentle, delicate, and warm. From a modern perspective, it often seemed like: “A good girl is obedient, and a good boy is capable.”<\/p>\n

Despite modernization and increasing gender equality, cultural background<\/strong> still plays a significant role in parenting. Cultural heritage is learned from early childhood. While biological factors determine a child’s sex<\/strong>, gender identity<\/strong> is more closely tied to cultural and psychological identity. That\u2019s why parents \u2014 consciously or unconsciously \u2014 often raise boys and girls differently.<\/p>\n

Children of all genders need love and attention<\/strong>. Girls are often taught empathy through play \u2014 caring for dolls, a sibling, etc. \u2014 preparing them for the future role of a mother<\/strong>. Boys, on the other hand, are typically encouraged to take on protective roles and are often told they “must not show weakness.”<\/p>\n

Many parents focus on building confidence in boys<\/strong>, because they are expected to be strong for the responsibilities of adulthood. They are told they are smart, brave, and capable. However, this emphasis often neglects their emotional side<\/strong>, which gets suppressed due to beliefs that showing emotions is a weakness. This can lead to difficulties in recognizing and expressing emotions<\/strong> later in life. A common phrase heard in the upbringing of boys is: “Don\u2019t cry like a girl.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Girls, on the other hand, are often encouraged to express their feelings and receive emotional support from parents when facing problems. Yet they\u2019re also expected to be both equal to men<\/strong> and responsible for children and the household.<\/p>\n

Despite the differences in raising boys and girls<\/strong>, there are also differences in raising children of the same gender<\/strong>. Every child is an individual<\/strong>, and we are all different. Without that diversity, the world wouldn\u2019t be such a beautiful place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
